Kick the Habbit, Save some Dough Online
I hate to admit it, but I am an ex smoker, but having been a smoker in the past gives me a little insight for those of you who may still be smoking. I know it’s common knowledge that quitting smoking can save you some money, but if you’re not actually saving it, and seeing the numbers, it is of little motivation. I know this first hand. What I’m about to tell you may seem like a no brainer, but it works.
The national average for a pack of cigarettes right now is around $4.00 a pack. If you’re smoking a pack a day that’s about $28 dollars a week. Multiply that by 4 weeks and you’ve got $112 a month. Some people may have more, some may have less, but the point is this is money you can put back into your pocket; However, I know leaving it in your pocket doesn’t feel like saving it at all. Even if you put the money into an existing savings account, it just gets mixed in with everything else, so here’s a tip.
There are a lot of online savings accounts these days. You can set one up and have them take a specified dollar amount out every month. Take the amount you normally pay for cigarettes each month, and use that amount to open your account. Set up your account to have that same amount deducted every month. This way as time goes by you can see exactly how much money you have saved since the time you quit smoking. The best part is it’s real spendable cash, and the longer you stay quit, the bigger it gets, and you can see it! How cool is that?
In case you are wondering, I used ING Direct for my online savings account. There are many others you can choose from, but the reason I chose ING was because there are no fee’s and you get a pretty good interest rate.
