Magicjack Free Phone Calls
⊆ May 8th, 2008 by Daymon | ˜ No Comments »Most of you already know about VoIP clients such as Skype, or the VoIP clients built into Windows Live Messenger, and Yahoo, and some of you may even use this type of phone service with a router hooked up to your telephone. All of these are really low cost ways to make a call to a far away relative or loved one’s computer or phone, but what if you could use your telephone to make unlimited local and long distance calls for free?
Magicjack (Magicjack.com) claims to make it possible for you to do exactly that. OK, so it isn’t really 100% free. The cost is about forty dollars, and you are only billed about $20 a year after that. You can make calls in the U.S. and to Canada with no long distance charges or monthly phone bill. You don’t have to be a brainiac to set it up either. It’s just a small device you plug into a USB port on your computer, then plug your phone into that. They’ll assign you a phone number and off you go.
The only drawback I can see is your computer would need to be on when you are making a phone call, and I have to assume if someone called while you had your computer off it would go directly to voicemail, or you’ll just miss the call all together. Someone correct me if I’m wrong. All in all, it’s the cheapest way to call a landline, voip, or cell phone, even beating out computer based PC to phone services such as Skype, or Yahoo and MSN Messenger. Even if it doesn’t replace your main line you could use it for a second line or even just for long distance. It might even make a great phone line for the kids. For 20 bucks a year, what have you got to lose?
